WWI monument photo1.jpeg

This granite memorial is topped with two bronze eagles. The center portion of the memorial features four bronze plaques (two on the front, two on the back) with the names of the battles in which American forces participated in France (Argonne, Maine, Scoissons, and St. Mihiel). There are two additional bronze plaques (one on either side of the memorial) designed with an eagle and shield at the top and lists of the names of the Fayette County soldiers who died during the war.

This memorial, dedicated on November 11, 1927, replaced a previous memorial arch that had originally been dedicated in 1919. The bronze eagles and plaques were transferred from the arch to the new memorial.
