Desire to Heal
1973 / Michael Tradowsky / Cleveland
Colloquially referred to as "the Tooth", due it's installation right outside the Dental school, Desire to Heal shows three equal parts coming tantalizingly close to forming a flower bud shape. Each piece rounds at the bottom and points at the top with a smooth outer facing side, and the viewer can tell that on the inner side, the three pieces would fit together immaculately. And that's exactly what Tradowsky wants. The three parts draw the viewer in and instill them with a "desire to heal" the sculpture and push the pieces together.
Installed in 1973 as a gift from the graduating class, Dr. Tradowsky stated, “The desire to heal is inherent in live material, and the art piece has the form of an organic object, capable of this healing process.”
