James D. Herd

The tombstone monument of James D. Herd, born May 14, 1840, died February 9, 1888. The stone statue of Herd on top of the tombstone shows a bearded man in a tunic length coat holding a book in front of him with his right arm. Herd was the eldest son of Thomas Herd and Lydia (nee Darrow). He was elected to Justice of the Peace in 1871 and appointed to the Board of Examiners of Union County in 1877. The gravestone is in Section D of the Oakdale Cemetery on Marysville, Ohio.
