Recovery

2004 / Stephen Canneto / Columbus

Recovery 1.png

Two metal two-dimensional figures standing on a silver sphere work together to hold a set of glass, multicolored, interlocking discs.

The inscription reads: "In recognition of the courage of the millions of people with severe and persistent mental illness, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, and major depression. Recovery is possible for all people. Recovery is an interpersonal dynamic process of embracing hope, defining oneself, and participating in meaningful roles in community. Definition of recovery created and generously provided by the PAIMI Advisory Council Ohio Legal Rights Service."

The sculpture has been used as the model for the Recovery Award, given out by Southeast Health Care's Fresh AIR Gallery. It recognizes artists who have worked in the community to end the stigma against mental illness and promote recovery efforts.
