Knowledge Unfolding

Knowledge Unfolding-1 2016.jpg

A series of big glass panels that start on the third floor of Julka Hall and end up in the courtyard between the Hall and Fenn Tower, flowing and floating like windblown scraps of paper, Each panel is stained with an explosion of pastel colors and inscribed with writing. What really gives Knowledge Unfolding its meaning, is what is written on each panel. The initial panels inside Julka Hall are painted with ancient Chinese hieroglyphics. They then morph into modern languages, then binary. They finally culminate in the courtyard covered in a cryptic alien text that is yet to be discovered.

The progression of Knowledge Unfolding, from high up indoors to outside along the ground, reminds the viewer that knowledge will always still be unfolding and evolving. Shan-Shan Sheng's public art is well known for its bright pallette, unique concepts, and creative installations.
