This memorial sculpture is crafted from 26,600 lbs of Indiana limestone and painted steel. The work functions as a solar calendar, marking solar noon on September 11 every year.
The work was commissioned as part of the 2002 Kettering Rocks! International Stone Sculpting Exposition. During the exposition, eight sculptors from around the world were given 20 days to create their works in Delco Park. The completed works were then relocated to various public sites throughout the city of Kettering. This item is permanently installed on the Seitz plaza at Lincoln Park Civic Commons, where it was dedicated on September 11, 2003.
