Terrestrial Formation

This sculpture is part of a series of the artists' works that are inspired by "the growth and development of urban centers and the sewer systems." The sculpture is carved from a single 16,800 lb piece of Indiana limestone and is in the shape of a bullet with window niches in a symmetrical pattern to reflect "the growing formation of a sewer grate."

The work was commissioned as part of the 2002 Kettering Rocks! International Stone Sculpting Exposition. During the exposition, eight sculptors from around the world were given 20 days to create their works in Delco Park. The completed works were then relocated to various public sites throughout the city of Kettering; this item is permanently installed at Governor's Place office park.
