Hershy Childrens Garden Gates
1999 / Brinsley Tyrrell / Cleveland
After receiving the commission for the gates in a competition put on by the Botanical Gardens, Tyrrell collaborated with welder and blacksmith Steve Jordan to create these magnificent gates. There are three gates: The Butterfly Gate, the Fly Gate, and the Praying Mantis Gate. The design of the gates was heavily inspired not only by insects, spiders webs, etc., but also by the whimsical sensibilities of children. The gates used to lead right to a series of tunnels for children to crawl through.
