The statue has been removed at least twice for maintenance and repairs, most recently in 2009 when she was cleaned and painted gold. She originally held a set of scales in her proper left hand, but these were not replaced when she was most recently reinstalled for fear that they may break loose and injure a passerby on the ground. The memorial incorporates a number of commemorative elements, including a bronze sculpture of a female firefighter carrying a small child and several memorial benches in honor of specific men and women. At the center of the memorial is a concrete vault containing a time capsule. On top of the vault is a bell that was once on the riverboat Reuben Springer; this bell served as the Loveland firefighters' alarm bell until 1934. There are four pillars with additional memorial plaques honoring fallen responders, including those who lost their lives in a 2007 fire in Charleston, SC.
