The largest is 15 feet high. The triangular precinct is paved in brick, 40 feet on a side. The entry pathway is paved with bricks from a 19th century fire station in Dayton. The Firefighter silhouette idea was inspired by an ancient Jain icon of the Buddha -- the image being empty space, indicating the spiritual, immaterial essence of the Buddha, and hence, the Fallen. The sculpture is carved from a single 16,800 lb piece of Indiana limestone and is in the shape of a bullet with window niches in a symmetrical pattern to reflect "the growing formation of a sewer grate." The work was commissioned as part of the 2002 Kettering Rocks! International Stone Sculpting Exposition. During the exposition, eight sculptors from around the world were given 20 days to create their works in Delco Park. Title A name given to the resource Wright Brothers' Bench Description An account of the resource The Wright Brothers' Bench was designed by David Black based on the famous photograph of the Wright brothers' first flight. In that photo there was a small wooden bench. The new bench is made of bronze with inscriptions along the front and back. On top of the bench are two bowler hats, the style worn by the Wright brothers. The bench is a golden brown patina and the hats are a dark gray, almost black. Nine benches have been installed in the Dayton area: Carillon Historical Park; Dave Hall Plaza; Dayton International Airport; Engineers Club of Dayton; Medal of Honor Park at Wright Patterson Airforce Museum; the U.S Airforce Museum; Woodland Cemetery; Wright Brothers Airport; and Wright State University. Title A name given to the resource The Record Description An account of the resource "The Record," created and installed by artist Michael Frasca, was selected through a competition to select a public artwork to commemorate Centerville and Washington Township's Bicentennial in 1996. The piece consists of twelve one-ton terracotta books, stacked one on top of the other. The top book is slightly turned from the rest of the stack. The books are an obvious representation of the library, but they also symbolize the knowledge of the early pioneers who settled the area.
