Twelfth Anniversary Exhibition - Tribute

Featuring: Wayne Draznin, Nick Livaich, John Puskas & Fred Schmidt.

"The four artists represented in this show lived and worked in our region. Some studied here, others taught here, and all of them produced work that defines our cultural history. Their gifts help us define who we are. We, at The Sculpture Center, as well as the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve, have chosen to focus upon and preserve the visual art from our region, and thereby honor our artists that produce the work.

Bernice and I have been sponsoring an anniversary exhibition at The Sculpture Center – this being the twelfth. This year we contemplate the passing of these four artists – Wayne Draznin, Nick Livaich, John Puskas, and Fred Schmidt – whom we knew well and whose work we greatly admire. Wayne and Fred had exhibited at The Sculpture Center in the past. I worked with Nick for many years, and I enjoyed my visits to John’s studio. All of these artists were dedicated to their work and spared nothing in the single-minded pursuit so necessary to a fruitful career. The lives of the four were as different as the art they produced.

Nick Livaich, a painter, also executed prints and wall reliefs of cut paper. John Puskas worked in enamels and ceramics. Wayne Draznin did video installations, and Fred created metal sculpture, many finished in vivid primary colors. All arrived at a maturity in their work and achieved a consistent, successful production that brought them recognition and distinction in their media. What ties them together is that they all hail from our region, and we can claim them as our own."
