The Sculptors Forum - Call for Artists

eligibility
Current MFA students and 2009, 2010, and 2011 MFA graduates of universities of the greater region of Ohio, contiguous states (Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania), and Ontario, Canada

juror
Barbara Hunt McLanahan is the executive director of the Judd Foundation (joined 2005) and a board member of the Jerome Foundation in Minnesota. Previously she directed Artists Space, a not-for-profit gallery in New York. McLanahan graduated from the University of Kent in Canterbury, England.

parameters
Appropriate artworks should be small enough for easy handling by no more than two people or smaller and can include small installation or video work with a sculptural component. The sculpture may be for exhibition on the floor, a pedestal, or the wall or for ceiling suspension if it is lightweight. Artists may submit up to 3 artworks, created within the last 3 years. Artwork will be exhibited indoors. Artists are responsible for shipping, insurance during shipment, and difficult installations. The Sculpture Center insures all artwork while on its premises.

sculptureX symposium #2: The State of the MFA
After the Pedestal
is limited to MFA students and recent MFA grads, for one time only, to showcase the work from the many graduate programs in this greater region and to link with the SculptureX Symposium #2: The State of the MFA, to be held at the Cleveland Institute of Art on Saturday, October 15. The free, day-long symposium with keynote speaker Ann Hamilton of Ohio State University, Sculpture Speed Dating, and student moderated roundtable discussions, is open to all. Application Process

      Electronic application is required by midnight Sunday, July 30.

      A hard copy of the Application Form [click here to download] and a $30 processing fee should be sent to The Sculpture Center to arrive no later than Friday, July 15. 

Application Must Include

  • Up to 9 images total of no more than 3 artworks and details, shot as high resolution jpegs (set at no larger than 300 ppi and 8 x 10 inches)
  • Image list of title, date, medium, size (h x w x l/d) clearly keyed to images by name or number, saved as a PDF. If any of the works need explication or if there is a video link, provide the information here.
  • Artist’s resume with all contact information, saved as a PDF
  • Artist’s statement of one paragraph, saved as a PDF
 

Note for Video Work

If a video is submitted, the uploaded application information must include a link (with password, if protected) to an internet site where the juror can access and view the video.
